Who We Are
9 Colors Initiative is a Black- and queer-led nonprofit rooted in the pursuit of equity, health, and inclusion for LGBTQIAA+ and allied communities across Florida.
Our Origins
Founded in 2016 by a group of young college students, 9 Colors Initiative began as a direct response to the social and health disparities disproportionately affecting Black queer individuals and their families. What started as a grassroots movement in Florida’s central west, southwest, and south regions quickly evolved into a powerful platform for justice, healing, and community-building.
At a time when our communities were overlooked and underserved, our founders created something bold: a space where those most impacted by systemic oppression could be centered, supported, and celebrated.
Our Growth
Since then, 9 Colors Initiative has grown into a recognized leader within Florida’s LGBTQIAA+ and allied communities. We’ve advanced equity through health-focused programs, cultural organizing, and advocacy efforts that tackle real issues—HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, mental health stigma, access to care, discrimination, and systemic bias.
Through partnerships with local organizations, city governments, educators, and health providers, we’ve brought visibility to marginalized experiences and delivered critical resources that meet our community’s needs.
Our Impact
Our work has reached thousands of individuals and families who have faced discrimination, stigma, and gaps in care. Whether through advocacy, education, or affirming events, we foster a sense of belonging, connection, and empowerment.
We don’t just show up in moments of crisis—we remain committed to building systems that sustain wellness, joy, and liberation for the long term.
Our Commitment
With a dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and supporters, 9 Colors Initiative continues to lead with integrity, compassion, and vision. We remain grounded in our founding principles and guided by a future where safety, access, and opportunity are not privileges—but expectations.
This is more than a nonprofit. It’s a movement. And we’re just getting started.
